What We Build

Our Services

Structural and decorative hardscape — walls, patios, stone, block, brick, concrete, and the outdoor rooms built from them. Knoxville & East Tennessee.

Retaining Walls

Structural walls for slopes and grade changes

East Tennessee yards are rarely flat. A retaining wall turns a slope into usable ground — holding the grade, framing a driveway or terrace, and managing the water that hillside lots shed. Built in block or natural stone, with drainage behind the wall treated as part of the wall, because a wall that traps water is a wall that leans.

  • Block and natural stone retaining walls
  • Terracing for sloped yards
  • Drainage behind the wall included in the work

Paver Patios & Walkways

Outdoor floors that stay flat

Patios, walkways and pool surrounds in concrete pavers. What decides how a paver surface looks in five years is what is under it: excavation, a compacted base and clean edges. Laid that way, pavers ride out East Tennessee's wet winters and clay soil without heaving or rutting.

  • Patios, walkways and pool surrounds
  • Excavation and compacted base preparation
  • Edge restraints and joint sand

Flagstone

Natural flat stone for patios and paths

Flagstone patios, walkways and steps — irregular natural stone fitted piece by piece, laid dry on a prepared base or set in mortar. No two flagstone jobs look alike, which is the point: the stone's own shape does the design work.

  • Flagstone patios and walkways
  • Dry-laid or mortar-set installation
  • Stone fitted and cut piece by piece

Natural Stone Work

Veneer, borders and built stone features

Stone veneer on foundations and walls, stone borders and edging, columns, mailbox surrounds and garden features — natural stone, much of it sourced regionally, worked and set in mortar. Stone is the material this trade is named for, and it finishes everything the other services build.

  • Stone veneer on walls and foundations
  • Columns, borders and garden features
  • Mortar-set natural stone

Stone Steps

Steps that handle a hillside lot

Entry steps, garden steps and stairways connecting one level of a yard to another — in slab stone, flagstone treads or block with stone caps. On the sloped lots this region is full of, steps are usually built alongside a wall, and the two are planned together.

  • Entry and garden steps
  • Slab stone and flagstone treads
  • Steps integrated with retaining walls

Block Work

Structural block for walls and foundations

Concrete block laid straight and true — retaining and garden walls, foundation and crawl-space walls, and the block cores that stone veneer and outdoor kitchens are built on. Block is one of the trades this business is most often subcontracted for.

  • Retaining and garden walls in block
  • Foundation and crawl-space walls
  • Block cores for veneer and outdoor builds

Brick Work

Brick laid, repaired and repointed

Brick walls, borders, columns and steps, and repairs to existing brick — including repointing mortar joints that East Tennessee's freeze-thaw winters have opened up. Water gets into a failed joint, freezes, and pushes the wall apart from inside; repointing closes that path.

  • Brick walls, columns and borders
  • Brick steps and stoops
  • Repointing of weathered mortar joints

Concrete

Flatwork, curbing and retaining edges

Poured concrete for driveways, slabs, walkways and pads — formed, poured and finished — plus curbing and retaining edges (guarniciones), the shaped concrete borders that hold a drive or a bed line. Curb and edge work is a regular part of the subcontract side of this business.

  • Driveways, slabs, pads and walkways
  • Curbing and retaining edges
  • Forming, pouring and finishing

Outdoor Kitchens

Masonry-built cooking spaces

Outdoor kitchens built in block and finished in stone or brick — grill surrounds, counters and bar seating, built on a patio that is part of the same plan. Masonry construction is what lets an outdoor kitchen live outside year-round in a climate with real winters and wet springs.

  • Grill surrounds and counters in block and stone
  • Bar and seating walls
  • Built together with the patio beneath it

Outdoor Fireplaces & Fire Features

Fireplaces, fire pits and seating walls

Outdoor fireplaces, fire pits and the seating walls that gather around them — masonry-built in block, stone and brick. A fire feature is what keeps a patio in use after the sun goes down and well past summer, and it is built to the same standard as any other structural masonry here.

  • Wood-burning fire pits and fireplaces
  • Seating walls around the fire
  • Block cores with stone or brick finishes
